HMWPE Cable
CerAnode’s HMWPE Cable is a heavy-duty, high-molecular-weight polyethylene (HMWPE) insulated DC cable designed specifically for cathodic protection systems. Built with stranded copper conductors and a resilient HMWPE jacket, the cable delivers reliable, low-resistance current feeds for anode beds and structure returns, even in harsh soil, water, or marine environments.
This cable is engineered for direct burial, submersion, or exposure underground or underwater, giving project designers and installers a durable, low-maintenance option for pipelines, storage tanks, marine structures, and other metallic assets requiring corrosion control.
Key Features & Benefits
Materials & Construction
- Stranded Copper Conductor: Provides low-resistance DC conductivity and flexibility, conforming to standard copper conductor specs for CP service.
- HMWPE Insulation Jacket: The high-molecular-weight polyethylene outer jacket offers strong resistance to abrasion, crushing, moisture, oil, chemicals, and UV exposure—critical for underground burial or underwater use.
- Direct-Burial / Submersible Rated: Certified for direct burial and safe for wet locations, making it suitable for pipelines, tanks, wells, seawater environments, groundbeds and marine structures.
Electrical & Performance:
- 600 V DC Rating / 75 °C Max Operating Temp: Meets standard CP cable voltage and thermal requirements for most rectifier and anode-lead circuits.
- Consistent Current Delivery: Low DC resistance and stable insulation ensure efficient current flow to anode beds or structure returns, reducing voltage drop and improving cathodic protection (CP) effectiveness.
- Flexible and Easy to Handle: Cable remains flexible for installation and routing, yet retains mechanical strength—suitable for bends, pulls, and burial without compromising conductor integrity.
Durability & Environmental Resistance:
- Resistant to Soil, Water, and Chemical Exposure: HMWPE sheath withstands moisture, salts, oils, and many environmental chemicals—essential for underground, seawater, or industrial exposures.
- Abrasion and Crush Resistant: Protected against physical damage during installation or due to shifting soil—helps maintain conductor integrity over long service life.
- Minimal Maintenance: Once installed and properly terminated, HMWPE cable typically does not require frequent inspection or special maintenance, reducing lifetime cost and downtime.
System Compatibility & Flexibility:
- Suitable for Anode Leads, Header Lines, Returns & Test Leads: Use for all types of DC runs in CP systems from rectifier to anode groundbeds, structure returns, or test leads.
- Supports Dual-Layer Insulation (Optional): For aggressive or chemically hostile environments, a dual-insulation variant can be specified.
- Available in Multiple Sizes & Configurations: From small AWG sizes up through large conductors, allowing design flexibility to meet current, distance, and system size requirements.
Applications
- Burial and grounding of pipeline CP systems (DC feeder cable for anode beds or structure returns).
- Cathodic protection of storage tanks, wells, and buried vessels for header cables, anode leads, or structure return wires.
- Marine and underwater installations: offshore platforms, pilings, seawater-immersed structures, docks, and quay-walls.
- Deep anode ground-beds and CP systems in harsh soils or chemically aggressive environments.
- Portable or remote CP test station wiring or temporary lead sets for maintenance and inspection.
