Loresco® Coke

Loresco® Coke is a premium carbonaceous backfill designed to enhance the performance of impressed-current cathodic protection (ICCP) anode systems. By surrounding anodes with highly conductive coke material, Loresco® Coke reduces groundbed resistance, improves current distribution, and extends anode service life. It is engineered for deep or shallow groundbeds, surface beds, and any environment where reliable anode-to-earth contact is critical.

Electrical Performance & Groundbed Efficiency:

  • Low Resistivity: Coke-based backfill lowers soil/groundbed resistivity to improve current flow from anode to soil, enhancing cathodic protection (CP) effectiveness.
  • Expanded Contact Surface: By enveloping the anode with conductive coke particles, the effective size of the anode is increased, reducing anode-to-earth resistance and improving current distribution.
  • Extended Anode Life: The coke backfill often carries a portion of the discharged current and is consumed before the anode metal, prolonging the structural anode lifespan.

Material Quality & Backfill Characteristics:

  • High-Carbon Purity: Loresco® Coke products are calcined and surface-modified, with fixed carbon > 99% by weight, ensuring high conductivity and stable performance.
  • Optimized Particle Structure: Particles are sized and shaped, with surface treatment and optional surfactants, to improve packing, reduce voids, and maximize electronic contact even in deep wells.
  • High Bulk Density: Densely packed coke backfill improves the efficiency of groundbeds and ensures stable placement, reducing the chance of voids or settling over time.

Installation Flexibility & Reliability:

  • Pourable or Pumpable Backfill: Loresco® Coke backfill can be poured or pumped (wet or dry), making it suitable for deep wells, vertical anode wells, or shallow groundbeds, even where tamping or compaction is difficult.
  • Rapid Groundbed Commissioning: Because of its conductive and settling properties, groundbeds with Loresco® Coke can often be energized sooner, helping speed up project timelines.
  • Versatile Use: Suitable for both deep-well and shallow groundbed systems, as well as for retrofits or new installations.
