Kynar Cable

CerAnode’s Kynar Cable (PVDF-insulated cable) is engineered for demanding cathodic protection (CP) environments where chemical resistance, durability, and long-term stability are essential. With a Kynar® (polyvinylidene fluoride) insulation jacket, this cable delivers superior performance in harsh soils, brackish water, chemical-exposed sites, and offshore structures. Its excellent thermal, chemical, and abrasion resistance makes Kynar Cable a reliable choice for continuous DC current delivery to anodes and CP systems in extreme conditions.

Key Features & Benefits

Materials & Construction:

  • Fluoropolymer PVDF (Kynar®) Insulation: Provides outstanding chemical resistance—effective against acids, salts, hydrocarbons, chlorides, oxidants and other aggressive agents commonly found in CP environments.
  • HMWPE Outer Jacket: Protects the inner insulation and conductor from abrasion, impact, crushing, moisture, and UV degradation, ensuring mechanical durability and long life even when buried or submerged.
  • Stranded Copper Conductor: Offers low resistance DC conductivity and flexibility for easy installation in conduit, trenches, or direct burial—suitable for anode leads, header lines, structure returns, and test leads.

Electrical & Operational Performance:

  • 600 V Rated, High Temperature Tolerance: Meets standard CP cable specs, with conductor rating appropriate for DC rectifier output and CP loads.
  • Low Permeability & Long-Term Insulation Integrity: PVDF barrier resists degradation over time, even in chemically aggressive or high-moisture environments, reducing risk of insulation failure.
  • Reliability in Corrosive Environments: Suitable for saltwater, brackish water, chemically contaminated soils, and deep anode groundbeds where standard PVC or PE-insulated cables could deteriorate quickly.

Durability & Environmental Resistance:

  • Chemical Resistance: PVDF insulation resists acids, chlorides, hydrocarbons, oxidants and other corrosive agents—beneficial for installations in industrial, petrochemical, marine, or contaminated environments.
  • Mechanical Strength & Abrasion Resistance: HMWPE jacket withstands soil movement, bedding stones, burial, and mechanical stresses—ideal for pipelines, tanks, and groundbeds.
  • Extended Service Life & Low Maintenance: The robust dual-layer construction ensures longevity; minimal maintenance is required once proper installation is completed.

System Compatibility & Flexibility:

  • Suitable for Multiple CP Uses: Can be used as anode lead wire, header cable, structure-return cable, test leads, or interconnects in impressed-current and galvanic CP systems.
  • Available in Multiple Sizes & Custom Options: Standard conductor sizes (#14 AWG up to large CP cables) and customization options (tinned conductor, special stranding, color coding, custom lengths) to match project requirements.
  • Optional Armored Variants: For installations requiring mechanical protection armored versions with steel wire armor are available.

Applications

  • Impressed-current CP (ICCP) systems for buried pipelines, tanks, and vessel bottoms
  • Marine and offshore structures: piers, intake systems, seawater heat exchangers
  • Deep anode groundbeds and remote CP sites exposed to aggressive chemicals or saline environments
  • Chemical plants and industrial process facilities where harsh soils or fluids are present
  • High-temperature CP installations that exceed the limits of standard polyethylene-insulated cable
  • Test stations, junction boxes, and CP monitoring systems needing durable, long-life DC wiring.
